Boeing's Official Rendering of their F/A-XX Concept
Introduction
Boeing has provided a new rendering for its F/A-XX proposal, which bear similarity to the official artwork released for their F-47. The new rendering of the F/A-XX proposal from Boeing was first shown at the Tailhhok Symposium in late August 2025. The rendering was first published by Aviation Week. The F/A-XX program is the U.S. Navy's effort to develop a 6th generation stealth fighter for use aboard U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and is intended to replace 4th generation Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and Boeing EA-18G Growlers.
Public Push for Contract Award?
It would appear that Boeing's release of it F/A-XX design, not long after the reveal of Northrop Grumman's F/A-XX design, is a calculated move by both companies to elecit public support for the awarding of the contact. U.S. Navy Vice-Admiral Daniel Cheever, commonly referred to as the service's "Air Boss" is still "eagerly awaiting" a decision on the F/A-XX down-select, despite the uncertainty now swirling around the program. Hopefully, public support/pressure added to the U.S. Navy's already eager support plus congressional backing will persuade short-sighted Pentagon officals to reverse course and approve the F/A-XX fighter now.
Our Analysis
Boeing's F/A-XX renering does appear to show some similarities to their F-47 fighter for the U.S. Air Force. The bubble canopy has a similar shape. The foward ring of clouds may (or may not) hide a pair of canards and it appears it have a similar leading edge to the wing as the F-47. I believe it also appears to be a tailess design. The design similarities between this F/A-XX rendering and Boeing's F-47 may confirm a rumor circulating around the internet that the Boeing started with the F/A-XX design and based the F-47 off of it, instead of visa versa. Only time will tell.
